Common Sports

The football (the English association football or simply football) is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players each and an arbitrator dealing with the correct application of rules. It is considered the most popular sport in the world, since nearly 270 million people participate in their various competitions. It is played on a rectangular grass field, with a goal on each side of the field. The objective of the game is to move a ball across the field to put it into the opposing goal, an action that is called goal (European Portuguese) or goal (Brazilian Portuguese). The team that scores the most goals at the end of the match is the winner.
The modern game was created in England with the formation of the Football Association, whose 1863 rules are the foundation of the sport today. The football governing body is the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, known by the acronym FIFA. The main international football competition is the FIFA World Cup, held every four years. This event is the most famous and largest amount of viewers in the world, double the audience of the Olympics.
